Bundjalung people are seen in these photographs with the objects they used in their daily lives. They wear government-issued blankets over their ceremonial scarred and painted bodies. Believed to be the earliest photographs of the Bundjalung, they were probably taken by Conrad Wagner, who operated a photographic studio at Grafton in north-eastern New South Wales.
