Group of Aboriginal people
Original title: 'Oil painting of a group of Australian Aborigines, possibly in Sydney, ca. 1849'.
A framed oil painting of an Aboriginal man standing in front of a group of five seated Aboriginal women wrapped in blankets. It shows the group at camp by a small fire beside a rocky outcrop with a dog, possibly a dingo, lying next to the woman at far right. The woman, third from the right, is painted from the back and is wrapped in a blanket marked 'B O [i.e. Board of Ordnance] / 1849 / 2.[?]' The male figure wears a coat to his knees over a loosely buttoned shirt and probably a straw hat.
