Cultural Narrative:

The well-known Aboriginal figure Bennelong is named in a letter from First Fleet naval officer David Blackburn. Although Blackburn didn’t think much of the colony, the country or the people, he included wordlists of Sydney Aboriginal language in letters home to his family in England. In one list, he mentions ‘eeora’, meaning man. Blackburn did not name the Aboriginal person, or people, who gave him these words.
